The 2011 Mopar NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League Western Conference Finals presented by Lucas Slick Mist and JR Race Car turned into an exercise in patience for racers, their crews, and race officials after Mother Nature dropped rain every day of the event, but, though it was delayed, the event was completed as scheduled on Saturday, albeit a little later in the day, with champions crowned in eight age groups, Jr. Comp, and the team competition. When the dust settled, the Dyer brothers, who hail from Denver, Colo., stole headlines when they each won a Wally, Jordan in the 12-year-old age bracket and Jalen in the Visions Race Cars Jr. Comp Nationals Joining the Dyers in the winner’s circle were Aaron Jordan (age 8-9), Victoria Greene (10), Savana Bennett (11), Chandler Meziere (13), Shelby Eberwein (14), Joe Harless (15), and Paiton McWilliams (16-17).

Led by champions Jordan and Greene, the team from North Star Dragway in Denton, Texas, claimed the team championship, tallying 35 points to defeat Tri-State Raceway, which finished second with 27. Four teams finished with 22; Bandimere Speedway’s Team 1 won the tiebreaker to finish third in the standings. Western Colorado Dragway Team 2, Julesburg Dragway Team 1, and Auto Club Dragway at Auto Club Speedway Team 1 were the other three teams earning 22 points.

Jones, who hails from Fort Worth, Texas, took top honors in the 8-9 age group when he defeated Brock Azbill in the title round. Jones left the starting line first by two-hundredths and maintained his edge all the way through the finish line, crossing first in the 13.40 (13.26 dial) to 13.17 (13.01) match.

Greene followed in the footsteps of older sister Taryn, who won the 13-year-old age group title in 2009, when she defeated Dylan Sipes in the 10-year-old class final. Greene and Sipes left the starting line within one-thousandth of each other, but Sipes broke out with a 9.05 (9.07), while Greene ran a clean 9.00 (8.96) to win.

Bennett led the 11-year-old class title round wire to wire, turning a .015-second lead at the Tree into victory over Daniel Hensel. Both racers dialed 8.94, making it a heads-up affair, and Bennett was closer to the target, 9.00 to 9.02.

Jordan Dyer got the nod in the 12-year-old bracket final when Ruby DeGood red-lighted. Dyer celebrated with an 8.97 (8.94) victory pass.

Meziere made the tow from California pay off when he outlasted Alex Steen for 13-year-old class honors. Meziere left the starting line first, then ran closer to his dial, posting an 8.28 (8.24) to defeat Steen, who finished with an 8.19 (8.14).

Reigning Division 7 champion Eberwein added a Western Conference Finals title to an already impressive racing resume. Eberwein’s path to the 14-year-old age group winner’s circle was made a little easier when Kiefer Eickmann red-lighted in the final round. Eberwein, who also left a little early, ran a 7.97 (7.93) on her victory pass.

Harless paired a .011 light with an 8.09 (8.05) to take home the 15-year-old category Wally. Ryan Marshall had to settle for runner-up honors after breaking out by .008-second.

The 16-17 final round was a heads-up affair with both McWilliams and Nick Hines dialing a 7.90. McWilliams got the jump at the Tree by almost eight-hundredths, and she turned the advantage into a 7.924 to 7.922 holeshot win.

Jalen Dyer won the Jr. Comp championship, earning the automatic win when Anthony DeLuzio Jr. fouled out in the final. Dyer ran right on the 6.90 index on his final pass.

For the second straight year, the group from SRCA Dragstrip in Great Bend, Kan., took home the Team Spirit award. SRCA’s team built a replica of the first tower at the very first NHRA national event, and their creativity with that combined by a high level of enthusiasm throughout the day made them the runaway favorites for the award.

| Dates will be added for Division 5 finals and races @ Topeka, Sturgis, Firebird, Julesburg, and Roswell. | |||

We have had a very strong beginning to the 2010 season. Both Jalen and Spike have not lost in the first round yet. Jalen in his Jr Comp car already has on final and one semifinal appearance. We hope our success continues in all of our car. We also would like to thank our new Sponsor AMSOIL, a lot of the success we have had this season is due to their support. We also would like to thank Hot Stuff racing components, Xtreme signs and graphics, and LunarTide.net for their continued support, without them we would not be the team we are today. We would also like to thank the Harless family and Kory Hogan for their help with the JR comp car, it has been a good learning experience with this car. I hope everyone had a good off season and ready to tackle the summer. See everyone at the races…..

It has been a very busy and productive off season for Dirt Poor Racing so far. We are looking forward to the upcoming 2010 season. Our schedule is coming together and is sure to be a very busy summer. We should have all the final details in the next coming weeks. We are also very proud to announce that AMSOIL has become a member of the Dirt Poor Racing Team for the 2010 season. We also would like to announce That Jalen will debut our Dirt Poor/ AMSOIL JR Comp Dragster this season. It is a 2006 McGee chassis with a GSXR 1000 engine; we are very excited about step our team is taking. Our focus this season will be on Points championships at Bandimere and Pueblo and of course the Western Conference Final Championship. We will be making our annual rounds to Julesberg, Douglas, and Grand Junction. We think we will be attending a couple races Kearney and are planning a season ending trip to the Stip at Las Vegas Motorplex. We also want to thank some of our sponsors that continue to support our team including Lunar Tide, Hot Stuff Racing Components, and Xtreme Signs and Graphics. Without the help from all of our sponsors and support from our fans we could not become the team we are now. Again keep checking back we will post our schedule as soon as it is finalized. Thank you again and soon we will see everyone at the RACES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our 2009 Season is coming to a successful end. We have had many Peaks this season. This season Jalen was crowned points champion in the JD3 class at Pueblo Motorsports Park. Jalen also finished in the top 10 at Bandimere in the JD 3 class, and his 330 debut has been very successful, we think a championship in that class next year is in our forecast. Spike was also crowned points champion in the JD2 class at Pueblo Motorsports Park, Spike finished 7th in points in the JD2 class at Bandimere. We would like to thank all of our Sponsors this season for their continued support. We have some very exciting things lining up for our 2010 campaign; some new sponsors look to be coming on board. We will be adding at least one new car to our stable. Our 330 program for next season looks to be very exciting. And details of our JR Comp program will be coming soon. We do want to add a big thank you to Lucas Oil for their support this season, they have chosen to go a different direction and we wish them the very best, without their help we wouldn’t be the team we are today. We hope to see all the local racers at the Halloween Race in two weeks at Pueblo Motorsports Park. Good Luck everyone, and to all that we don’t see at the races please have a very safe winter.……

We want to thank everyone for all the support we have had over the last 2 months. We have gone through many Peak and Valleys. The rest of the season looks to be heading in a very positive direction for Dirt Poor Racing. Both Jalen and Spike have locked up the season points championship at Pueblo Motorsports Park with one points race left. Jalen has done a superb Job in the Titan class, in the two races he has qualified #1 and #4 respectfully and could land on the podium with a good showing on the Oct 10th race. Both Jalen and Spike are in a good position to finish in the top 6 in points at Bandimere this year also, and with a little luck a championship is not out of the question. This past weekend one of our racing families lost one of their sons in a car accident. We want to make sure the Ingo family, know they are in our hearts and in our prayers. We want to wish everyone Good Luck the last 2 months of the season and we will see you all at the races!!!!!!!!

What a difference a week makes. After the race in Douglas we found a lot more damage to Spike car then we thought. With the help from Keith Jackson rebuilding the chassis and Motivational Tubing getting us all the parts we needed. We had Spike Car back on all fours by Thursday night. To start off the weekend we raced at Pueblo Motorsports Park. I think I was a more nervous for Spike first pass then he was. Well things went very good, Spikes first pass was a little bit fast 8.62 but his light was awesome .018. From there on out Jalen and Spike were on their game all day long. Jalens worst light all day was a .029 and Spikes was a .066, both car ran very consistent. We put both cars in the finals. Spike raced Flying Ryan, and while heading to the lights, Ryan broke his throttle cable, so Spike had a bye run in the finals. Jalen had to race the Defending National Champion Kyle Cramsey in the finals. What an awesome race, both cut exactly the same light .024, and both boys broke out almost exactly the same Jalen winning by .001. This was a first for Dirt Poor Racing, putting both cars in the winner circle on the same day. Sunday we were to race at Bandimere, but Mother Nature had other plans. We arrived at the track about 9:30am and waited for the Motorcycle event to finish, but soon as afternoon came, I think the clouds started dumping about every 30min. All was not lost, we did have a great time with the other families BBQing and I guess you could say trailer racing. We are looking forward to another full weekend this next week, as we make the trip to Grand Junction to go compete against our friends down there.

Our trip to Douglas Motorsports Park did not quite as planned. On Saturday Spike opened the season with the first run down the track. He had an excellent reaction time of a .013; the car was a little fast 8.67. After going through the lights things for Spike went downhill fast. His right rear tire came off the bead and sent him for a ride. WOW, if it isn’t for bad luck. Spike was not injured, and he is more determined than ever to get this crash behind him and get back out the track this next weekend at Pueblo on Saturday and Bandimere on Sunday. His run would have made him the #1 qualifier on Saturday. The weekend was not lost though, Jalen ended up #1 qualifier both days with a .016 reaction time on Saturday and a .020 on Sunday. We had his motor freshened up before this weekend, and what a difference it made. We had our problems slowing the car down, but by the end of the weekend we were running very consistent 7.90. Jalen did make the finals on Saturday, he went out by a .013 red light and on Sunday he went red .001. We want to thank our sponsor and everyone at Douglas Motorsports Park that helped with Spikes episode. We are looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend at PMP and Bandimere……

Our Season finally got off to a SOGGY start and Bandimere Speedway. Mother Nature has not been very kind to us this year. I guess the best thing to say about this weekend, we did get in some passes, learned a lot about our new setups and didn’t lose ground in the point’s race. Spike ended up winning two rounds in his JD2 debut before the rain did us in and Jalen won his first round before being rained out while staging for round two. We would like to personally thank Bandimere Speedway and their staff for all the hard work they put in for this event; they tried everything to get in as many rounds as possible. It was very nice getting back to the track and seeing everyone again. Watching all the kids interact with each other during the rain delays was truly a joy. We are making a change in our schedule, the weekend of May 16 we were going to race at Bandimere Speedway for the Night of Fire and Thunder JR Titan race (non-points race, Jalen only). We have decided with all the rain we have had this year it will be in our team’s best interest to head to Douglas Motorsports Park and take in their two day show on May 16 and 17 to get both of our cars some Track time.

We would like to thank Principal Tracy Stegall for letting us be a part of the Birch Elementary Schools Race to Read program. Each school we visit is a totally different experience. Birch Elementary was very unique in how they do their program. It was a lot of fun watching Principal Stegall interview both Jalen and Spike. Both boys did very well. Spike had his reservations, but Principal Stegall knew how to open him up (maybe just a bit too much). We hope we answered most of the students’ questions. We also hope we get the chance to see each and every student we meet at the Night of Fire and Thunder. We would also like to make a quick thank you to Colleen Lyons-Cubides for all of her hard work she puts into this program, WOW it shows…. Please take a look at our gallery page; we posted a few pictures from this event.

We would like to thank Alex, Peggy, and Cody Espinosa with Drag-N-Butt Racing for giving us the chance to come to Western Colorado Dragway for their first annual Junior Dragster Clinic. We really enjoyed meeting everyone and I hope we were able to answer most of the questions for the new families just starting. We also want to thank Dave Mathews with Hot Stuff Racing Components for all the help and advice he gave at the clinic. With today’s economy, it is awesome to see how the junior class keeps growing and being a part of events like this is simply amazing. We do want to send out a big Good Luck to Marlena Miller, she is running Spike's 12.90 engine this year, and we hope it brings you all the good fortune it brought him over the last two seasons. Please take a look at our gallery, we did post a couple pictures from this last weekend.

We would like to thank Principal Dauman for giving us the opportunity to come to Stellar Elementary School in Thornton, CO to help promote the Race to Read program sponsored by Bandimere speedway. We enjoyed meeting many of the students, their parents, and teachers. Jalen and Spike were given the chance to show their cars and explain what Jr Drag racing is all about. Several of the students took advantage of being able to sit in the car and get a little taste of what Jalen and Spike get the opportunity of doing thanks to our sponsors. We hope we get to see many of the Students at the Night of Fire and Thunder put on by Bandimere Speedway after the Race to Read program is completed. Please come see us in the pits as Jalen will be racing that evening. We would also like to give a special thank you to Annette Johnson for all the hard work she puts into this program, people like you are what make these programs like this succeed. We did post a few pictures of this event on our gallery page.

Our main focus this year was the points chase at Bandimere Speedway and Pueblo Motorsports Park. Jalen won the championship in the JD2 class at PMP and finished 7th at Bandimere. Jalen went the whole season without a first round loss and averaged a .024 reaction time. Spike won the championship in the JD1 class at Pueblo Motorsports Park, and he finished 10th at Bandimere wile missing the last two races in that class. Spike during the season only lost 2 times in the first round while he averaged a .087 reaction time throughout the entire season. Spike did have a spectacular crash at Julesberg on September 21 - he was uninjured both physically and in spirit. We are looking forward to the 2009 Season where we will be defending our Championships at PMP, and racing against the toughest field of Junior Dragsters in the country at Bandimere Speedway. |

We did not race for points at any race track during the 2007 season. Our focus was on getting boys seat time and getting a feel for our cars and engine setups. Our 2008 season will focus on Points at Bandimere Speedway and Pueblo Motor Sports Park. We will also attend races at Douglas Motor Sports Park, Western Colorado Drag way, Julesburg Speedway. We will also race the Division 5 finals in Iowa, Division 7 finals in Nevada, and the winter racing series in Arizona. We race against the toughest field in the country. There are 145 registered cars at Bandimere Speedway. This is the largest field of cars at any one racing facility in the country. |
